Designing advisory services

The project evolves with finding the current issues between doctor-patient, solutions using prototype storming, and key findings from video prototyping

Overview

The project envisions a patient-doctor encounter that journeys through two tasks of Prototype storming and Video Prototype. The project covers the aspect of Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) on support systems for advisory services.

Goals

To brainstorm problems and formulate potential perspectives from different stakeholders. To prototype storm solutions with simple means to represent the prototypes that solve the issue.

The Problem

  • Poor doctor-patient interaction can become a barrier to a patient's effective treatment.
  • Managing multiple tasks can be difficult for a doctor to gain patient insights and create a treatment plan. Transparency is key to communication and task management.
  • Without a set of tools, it is impossible to assign, prioritize, manage, or complete tasks on time and deliver an effective treatment experience to the patients.

Concept Prototyping

The prototype storming phase focus on the important problems in the doctor-patient interaction and the idea was to create as many as prototypes we can for each of those issues. The prototypes are focused on doctors as beneficiaries as we want to help doctors to give more transparency leading to more effective treatment.

DocApp allows you to schedule an appointment online with your desired doctor without having to call the clinic saves time.

DocQ scheduler helps to keep track of delays and cancellations to reschedule appointments without having stress and frustration of overbooked days.

MedRec is cloud storage that allows to create and access the patient medical records in a very organized and secure way.

SPEXT is a digital assistant which would record patient problems which save the doctor's time to write down the report and offers a better interaction with the patient to know what they are suffering through.

Medibox is a pill dispenser with different signifies and creates affordance for patients to intake medication easier, safer and faster, also in case of emergencies.

Video Prototyping

In a doctor-patient encounter, we are both are role-playing as doctor and patient where we use the above prototypes in action during the encounter. This phase allows us to put into the shoes of stakeholders and give feedback on the prototype.

Key Takeaways

In this project, using brainstorming technique we identified current issues between doctor-patient encounters and how can we focus on the improvement potentials. The issues are highlighted in the prototyping storming such as appointment making, patient waiting time, inefficient information sharing, medication adherence where the patient is experiencing lack of knowledge, busy with their hectic schedule losing the result in better treatment.

The prototype storming helped us to focus on the direction that our world is heading centering everyday life around electronic tools, and digital availability/connectivity we came up with prototypes mostly incorporating those major points and the possibility of better - more transparent information access and sharing.

With video prototyping, as we put ourselves into the shoes of stakeholders, we experienced that it is more important to create a better understanding between doctor-patient and grant easier options to handling doctor appointments. The key findings were in the areas of communication, accessibility, safety, self-explanatory, cooperation, and transparency which leads to a better user experience maximizing treatment outcomes.
